Kim Cattrall returning to 'And Just Like That'
Kim Cattrall who played the iconic Samantha Jones in "Sex and the City" is finally returning to "And Just Like That" second season with a special appearance.
A representative from HBO Max has confirmed that she will be reprising her much awaited role for the series.
According to Variety, the 66-year-old filmed her cameo on March 22 without interacting with the cast or showrunner Michael Patrick King. She will reportedly only appear in one scene.
Cattrall's return comes less than a month before the season two premiere of AJLT. The show stars the three other original SATC actresses—Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis—and follows the events of the renowned HBO program and its two spin-off films.
Cattrall has been adamant about not returning to the franchise for years. "It's a great wisdom to know when enough is enough," she said in May 2022 to Variety. "I didn't want to jeopardize what the show meant to me.The path forward appeared to be clear."
Cattrall remarked at the time that she was "never asked to be a part of the reboot," however she highlighted that she had already made it known that she had no intention of returning after 2010's "Sex and the City 2" film.
"Can you imagine going back to work at a job you did 25 years ago?" she asked. "Everything must grow or die. When the series finished, I thought it was clever. We're not going to say it again. Then there's the movie to tie up all the loose ends. Then there's another film."
While Cattrall was not present for the first season of AJLT, writers kept her character alive through text messages with her now-estranged friend Carrie Bradshaw (Parker). Carrie invited Samantha, who now resides in London, to meet up in the season one finale.
"It's odd, isn't it?" Cattrall explained to Variety why the writers decided to keep Samantha in the plot. "I don't know how to feel about it."
On June 22, "And Just Like That" will return to HBO Max.
