‘Laapataa Ladies’ bags Japan Academy Film Prize nomination

Kiran Rao's directorial film "Laapataa Ladies" may not have received an Oscar nomination, but it has now earned a nomination for the Japan Academy Film Prize. After its theatrical release in Japan in October last year, the film was well-received by audiences and successfully ran for 100 days at the box office.

It is now nominated in the esteemed Best International Film category at the 2024 Japan Academy Film Prize.

"Laapataa Ladies" is competing in the category alongside Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer", Yorgos Lanthimos' "Poor Things", Jonathan Glazer's "The Zone of Interest", and Alex Garland's "Civil War". The winner will be revealed at the Japan Academy Film Prize ceremony on March 14.

Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Rao, Aamir Khan, and Jyoti Deshpande, "Laapataa Ladies" follows the story of two young brides who are mistakenly swapped during a train journey to their husbands' homes. The film features performances by Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan.
