Legendary actor Waheeda Rehman to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Succeeding Asha Parekh last year, the legendary Indian actress Waheeda Rehman is set to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year. The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting of India, Anurag Thakur broke the news today on social media.
On his social media accounts, he shared, "I feel an immense sense of happiness and honour in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is being bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema."
He further added, "As a Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee, Waheeda ji has exemplified dedication, commitment and the strength of a Bharatiya Nari who can achieve the highest level of professional excellence with her hard work. I congratulate her and humbly pay my regards to her rich body of work, which is an intrinsic part of our film history."
Throughout her five-decade-long journey in the film industry, Waheeda Rehman has been critically acclaimed for her roles in numerous Hindi films. Her best works include, "Pyaasa" (1957), "Kaagaz Ke Phool" (1959), "Chaudhvin Ka Chand" (1960), "Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam" (1962), "Guide" (1965), and "Khamoshi" (1969) amongst others.
This living legend of Bollywood had previously earned the Indian National Film Award for her role as a clanswoman in "Reshma Aur Shera".
Paying tribute to the legendary actor Dev Anand, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner announcement was made today, on the late star's birth centenary. Moreover, Waheeda Rehman had even shared the screen with Dev Anand in "Guide" (1965).
