Met gala's iconic carpet was weaved by artisans from Kerala
One of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year was the Met Gala 2023. A lot of famous people strutted down the carpet in expensive attire, lavish makeup, accessories, and more. The stars made an effort to coordinate their looks with this year's theme, "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty."
However, the Met Gala this year also featured a significant Indian influence. Indian weavers from Kerala created the event's beige carpet with red and blue patterns.
This carpet was created by Neytt by Extraweave. It is handwoven in the small city of Alleppey, Kerala, using sisal. For those who are unaware, sisal is a fabric manufactured from the agave sisalana cactus plant's green leaves.
The company recently shared a post about the same on Instagram and wrote, "Through the Met Gala 2023, we are honored to present the world with our exquisite Sisal carpet. 100% Sisal, hand-painted in the US, and weaved in Alleppey. Sharing the stage with such outstanding personalities and designers was an incredible opportunity."
