Mousomi Nag returns
After a two-year-long hiatus, Mousomi Nag has returned to the arena of showbiz. Quite recently, she worked in a one-hour drama and a series. Her journey as an actress had initially begun in 2005. The actress had originally made her film debut with "Run Out".
Now, Mousomi wants to regularly work as an actress. She had a chat with The Daily Star to talk about her hiatus, returning to showbiz and much more.
How does it feel to return to acting after a two-year gap?
Honestly, it feels very good. I have returned to a familiar world, where I am working with people I have known for years. I will be making my return with a serial made by Arko Mostofa and a one-hour drama directed by Gautam Kauri. The series is named, "Sweet Home" and the one-hour drama has been titled, "Piklu and Spy". Starting from now, I want to become a regular face in showbiz. However, I will still prioritise a good character and story first.
Could you tell us more about your characters in the two upcoming projects?
My character in "Sweet Home" is very interesting and I enjoyed performing in the role. Here, my character loves listening to music, particularly Rabindra Sangeet. In "Piklu and Spy", I play a student who is studying fine arts. In addition to her studies, my character is also trying to set up her own business.
After being offered these two roles, I felt that I would have missed out on two wonderful opportunities if I did not act in both the projects.
How have your colleagues felt about your return to showbiz?
My colleagues have all showcased a lot of enthusiasm and have been really supportive towards my return. In particular, my senior sisters in the field of acting have encouraged me to begin shooting many times during my hiatus. I am grateful to them. Even when I was not on screen, the audience also let me know how much they wanted to see me performing again. I also have to give a special shout out to Tarin apu and Richie apu, as they encouraged me a lot.
When did you start your journey in showbiz?
I began my journey in showbiz around 2005. Since then, I have been acting actively. However, I had to take a break several times. This time, my two-year hiatus was for my child. Every time I perform as an actress, I feel that the art of acting has given me a lot. Because of my acting, I have come to a place in my life where I am successful. I am grateful to all my directors, co-stars and colleagues for their continued support.
How do you keep yourself entertained?
Usually I occupy my free time by reading books, watching movies and listening to music. This has been a habit of mine for a long time and it still remains today. Also, I really enjoy having addas with people.
Are you drawn towards Humayun Ahmed's books?
I entered the world of literature through very difficult books, like the short stories of Rabindranath. Of course, "Haimanti" is my favourite story. After reading the many books of Rabindranath, I ventured into the works Samaresh Majumdar, who would become another favourite. Nimai Bhattacharya is another author whose books are close to my heart.
Later, I would finally start reading the works of Humayun Ahmed. At one point, his books became very near and dear to me. His "Himu" and "Misir Ali" are all-time favourites for me. Himu, in particular, is a dream character for me. However, Rupa is definitely my favourite character that Humayun Ahmed created. At times, unbeknownst to myself, I too have been Humayun Ahmed's Rupa.
