Nargis Akter donates awards, scripts and more to BFA
National Film Award winning director-producer Nargis Akter is regarded as one of the notable female filmmakers of our time. Recently she has donated all the achievements and collections, from her three decade long career, to the Bangladesh Film Archive (BFA).
On June 1, Nargis donated personal collections that included a Betacam containing 150 pieces of footage, U-matic format cassettes, seven screenplays of full-length films, photosets, albums, crests and certificates of the National Film Award, along with 30 medals from different international organisations and other memorabilia.
Present during the event were Bangladesh Film Archive's Project Director Dr Md Mofakkharul Iqbal and Film Officer Md Fakhrul Alam.
Nargis Akter has been active in the industry since 1993, having made different documentary, films and TV content. Among seven of her directorial films, four have won National Film Awards across 17 categories.
Speaking about her decision to donate her possessions, Nargis said, " I feel like they will be treated better here ( BFA) than my home. Besides this will also help uphold my achievements and legacy to the world. I have already donated 35 mm and digitally produced and directed films of mine for preservation to the Bangladesh Film Archive."
"I submitted the rest of them today. I hope that through the BFA, the next generation will get to witness and learn about my work. As without preservation, a lot of valuable materials are being damaged or lost to time," she concluded.
