After making rounds in international film festivals, Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury's directorial film "Boli" is now set to release in theatres across Bangladesh on February 7.

Producer Piplu R Khan shared with Prothom Alo that preparations are in full swing for the debut of the film. "Boli" won accolades at the Busan International Film Festival and received its censor certification in September last year.

Piplu R Khan explained, "Initially, we planned to release the film on February 14. However, after discussing it with the director and due to several reasons, we decided to move it up. Now, releasing it this weekend seems like a better option. Though time is short, we're moving forward with the planned schedule."

Director Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, who recently returned to Bangladesh at the end of January for the film's release, is fully occupied with final preparations. Yesterday, he told Prothom Alo, "We are releasing the film on Friday. The distributor and theatre owners have agreed to it, and we're wrapping up the final touches accordingly."

The film claimed the Best Film award at the 28th Busan International Film Festival. It was also screened at several other festivals last year, including the Shanghai International Film Festival. Most recently, the film was selected as the closing film of the 23rd Dhaka International Film Festival in January. During that event, the producer announced that the film would be released soon. Now, starting February 7, local audiences will finally be able to see it in theatres.

Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury hails from Bashkhali in Chattogram, Bangladesh. Growing up in the coastal region by the Bay of Bengal, he experienced firsthand the devastation of the 1991 cyclone and the heart-wrenching cries of families searching for missing loved ones.

This deep connection with the sea and his roots became a powerful influence when he decided to make his first film. "Boli" tells the story of the traditional wrestling sport, "Boli Khela" (Wrestling), which is deeply intertwined with the heritage of the coastal people of Chattogram.

"Boli" received a grant from the Bangladesh government in 2021. The film stars Nasir Uddin Khan in the lead role as the Boli, alongside Priyam Archi, AKM Itmam, and Angel Noor. The film also represented Bangladesh in the Oscar race this year.
