‘Never gave up once’
Starting her career with the hit telefilm, "All Time Dourer Upor" in 2013, once 'selfie queen' Safa Kabir, slowly paved her way into showbiz with her versatility and charming personality. Over the years, she proved her acting prowess in OTT projects like "Boli" and "Nishwas" and made people believe she could do serious roles too. The actress completed a momentous 10 years in the entertainment industry. She sits down with The Daily Star and talks about her aspirations, philosophy and more.
How does it feel to have completed 10 years in showbiz?
It was a wonderful experience. After 10 years, the fact that people know my name and love me is what matters most to me. I don't think in any other profession I would get that kind of love and respect from the people. I feel really great, honored, and loved.
I had many ups and downs during these 10 years, but I never gave up once. I think it's because of the strength and patience that I have, which helped me a lot.
What difference do you see in yourself now from 10 years ago?
I have changed a lot, physically and mentally. I looked very immature and childish 10 years ago due to my baby face. However, I think I look more mature now. I think that I have become more understanding, compassionate, and mature as I have grown older.
What was the most challenging part of your career?
I started my career with Airtel's hit telefilm "All Time Dourer Upor". People used to call me 'Selfie queen' and 'girl next door', due to this telefilm. I had to work a lot to break this stereotype that I can only act in these types of dramas. I always wanted to do lead roles in single dramas. The transition from that phase to now was the most challenging part. Now, I feel happy when directors come to me and tell me that they have written the character for me. It means a lot to me.
What are your favorite projects so far?
At the beginning of my career, I did some projects because I wanted to work with that director or co-artiste. Now, I do projects which come from my heart. If I had to mention some of my favorite projects, I would say, "E Golper Nam Nei" directed by Anam Biswas, "Aguntuk" directed by Ashfaq Nipun, "Fagun Theke Fagune" directed by Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, "Boli" directed by Shankha Das Gupta and "Nishwas" directed by Raihan Rafi.
Do you have any plans to work on films?
My debut telefilm "All Time Dourer Upor" was the turning point of my career because I did only three sequences in that telefilm, but people still remember my character even now. So, if I work in a film, I want that film to be memorable -- I am waiting for the right script and the right director.
What's your career plan right now?
After all these years, I have realized one thing– that my fans want to see me more on-screen. So, I want to give my audience better projects from now on. I have done some OTT projects, because of which I started drifting away from the small screen. However, I am shooting for tele-fictions for the upcoming Eid. Apart from these, I am in talks with some film directors as well.
