Nora Fatehi finally lands in Dhaka
A lot of speculation has surrounded the arrival of Canadian-born Indian actress, Nora Fatehi. Despite all of the obstacles, which kept Nora on the headlines over the last couple of days—regarding whether she would get the permission to land in Dhaka—the actress has finally stepped foot on Bangladeshi soil, having landed in Dhaka today, around 2 pm.
Nora will be performing at the Global Achievers Awards show, titled "Women Empowerment in Bangladesh"—which has been organised by the Women Leadership Corporation. The artiste's performance will also be packaged into a documentary.
Initially, Nora had been denied the permission to arrive in Dhaka, with the hike in dollar prices being cited as the reason. Later, last Monday, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued an order stating that Nora Fatehi and other international artistes and celebrities would be barred from entering Bangladesh, unless they paid tax at the source.
However, later it was declared by the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Dr Hasan Mahmud that NBR does not have the jurisdiction to stop the programme.
