On Friday, the British Academy revealed the initial round of selections across 25 categories for the BAFTA Film Awards 2025.

In the Film Not in the English Language category, All We Imagine as Light faces stiff competition from a diverse lineup of international films.
Among its contenders are "Black Dog (Gou zhen)", "The Count of Monte Cristo", "Emilia Pérez", "Flow", "The Girl With the Needle", "I'm Still Here (Ainda Estou Aqui)", "Kneecap", "La Chimera", and "The Seed of the Sacred Fig".
Meanwhile, in the Best Director category, Payal Kapadia is in the running alongside some of the most acclaimed filmmakers of the year.
Her rivals include Sean Baker for "Anora", Brady Corbet for "The Brutalist", Edward Berger for "Conclave", Denis Villeneuve for "Dune: Part Two", Jacques Audiard for "Emilia Pérez", Alice Rohrwacher for "La Chimera", Ellen Kuras for "Lee", Nora Fingscheidt for "The Outrun", and Coralie Fargeat for "The Substance".
In the Original Screenplay category, "All We Imagine as Light" is up against a compelling mix of narratives. Competing alongside it are "Anora", "The Apprentice", "The Brutalist", "Challengers", "Civil War", "Heretic", "Kneecap", "A Real Pain", and "The Substance".
BAFTA longlist highlights
As reported by Variety, Jacques Audiard's Spanish-language musical thriller "Emilia Pérez", which Netflix acquired during the Cannes Film Festival, has emerged as a frontrunner with an impressive 15 nominations. These include recognition for Best Film, Best Director, Leading Actress, and three spots in the Supporting Actress category.
Meanwhile, Edward Berger's Vatican-set mystery thriller "Conclave" follows closely with 14 nods, securing places in major categories such as Best Film, Best Director, and Leading Actor for Ralph Fiennes.
