Ranbir Kapoor breaks silence on being called ‘toxic’

Ranbir Kapoor has often been criticised in the media for being insensitive towards his wife, a National Award-winning actress, Alia Bhatt on several occasions. 

Recently, the actor was called 'toxic', when Alia Bhatt revealed in an interview, a few months back that her husband dislikes it when she wears lipstick and instructs her to "wipe it off".

The comment quickly went viral on social media, with many labeling Ranbir as a 'toxic' partner. Ranbir has now spoken out about the backlash his comment received. 

During a live fan engagement, Ranbir Kapoor discussed dealing with hostility on social media. "Hey, I'm not on social media, so I don't have to deal with it, which is great. However, I believe that negativity is really necessary, especially if you are an artiste, and that if you have some work out there, both must exist because this provides a balance."

"You know, sometimes a lot of things are written about you as an actor, a lot of opinions are formed that aren't always true, and you should take it with a grain of salt because this image of mine that has been produced by the movies or the characters I portray or by media is something that I don't own," added the actor. 

He went on to clarify, "It's owned by the public, it's owned by people who like my work or dislike my work and they are allowed to say anything about me as long as they give my work a chance, you know, as long as I can prove to them as an actor and that has always been my focus - to act."

"Recently, I was reading some article about being toxic and something relating to some statement I made, and I understand this," he said of the news articles written about him. 

"And I am on the side of those fighting against toxic masculinity; if they use me as the face of it, that's ok because their fight is bigger than me feeling sad because they disagree with what I said. I look at the big picture," stated the actor. 

Alia married Ranbir last year, and they had a daughter named Raha. In November, she will turn one.

Ranbir will next be seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's "Animal", while Alia will be seen in Vasan Bala's "Jigra".
