Remaking ‘Forrest Gump’ is like remaking ‘Mughal-e-Azam’: Aamir Khan
Bollywood superstar, Aamir Khan recently revealed that he was initially hesitant about making an Indian version of "Forrest Gump", as it would be similar to remaking "Mughal-e-Azam" or "Mother India."
The "Dangal" star avoided the script for "Laal Singh Chaddha" for two years before finally agreeing to read it. Aamir firmly believed that such a major adaptation would not be appreciated by the fans, and that it would be an injustice to the original movie.
Aamir Khan felt that a cult classic such as "Forrest Gump" would be difficult to adapt into Hindi, as the original movie is already a global sensation. Atul Kulkarni, the actor who wrote the script for "Laal Singh Chaddha" in just 15 days, believed that Aamir Khan would love the script if he gave it a read.
However, Aamir avoided the script for many years, as he couldn't believe that a first-time writer could write an entire screenplay of "Forrest Gump" in 15 days. As Aamir also did not want to offend his friend by calling the script bad, he had even more reason to stray away from Kulkarni's script. When Aamir finally got around to reading the script, however, he fell in love with it immediately.
"Laal Singh Chaddha" starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor is a remake of Tom Hanks' classic movie "Forrest Gump". The movie also stars Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya, in prominent roles. The film is slated to be released in theatres on August 11.
