SC chamber judge stays HC verdict that allowed Zayed Khan to assume post
The Supreme Court chamber judge today stayed for four weeks the High Court verdict that declared cancellation of actor Zayed Khan's candidacy and announcement of actress Nipun Akhter as general secretary of Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association (BFAA) "illegal".
Justice Obaidul Hassan, the chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, however, directed the authorities concerned to maintain status quo in respect to holding the office of GS of BFAA till further order.
The apex court chamber judge passed the order following a petition filed by Nipun challenging the HC verdict.
The court also asked Nipun to file a leave to appeal petition with the SC against the HC judgement in four weeks.
Zayed Khan's lawyer Ahsanul Karim told reporters that his client will continue holding the office of GS following the status quo order issued by the apex court chamber judge as he has already held the office and started working as GS of BFAA.
Meanwhile, Nipun's lawyer Mustafizur Rahman Khan told reporters that his client is the secretary of BFAA as there is no effectiveness of the HC verdict now.
On Wednesday, the HC declared cancellation of Zayed's candidacy and declaring Nipun as general secretary of BFAA "illegal".
