After an eight-year hiatus, renowned journalist Shafik Rehman is returning to television with his iconic magazine show "Lal Golap" on Banglavision. Rehman, who hosted the popular program before his prolonged absence from the country, will be back on screens starting December 1.

The show "Lal Golap" was discontinued when Rehman left Bangladesh eight years ago. Now, with his return amid the country's shifting political landscape, Banglavision has approached him with a proposal to revive the program.

90-year-old Rehman, known for his eloquence and distinctive media presence, gladly accepted the offer, stating, "The name 'Lal Golap' has become inseparably tied to mine. It's a show that has resonated with viewers both in Bangladesh and abroad."

"After being off-air since April 16, 2016, due to special circumstances, I am truly delighted to return to this beloved program. I'm also thrilled to be back doing what I love, and I hope our viewers will appreciate the thoughtful content with their families, anew," he further conveyed.

Rehman shared that two episodes have already been filmed, and if everything proceeds as planned, the show will premiere on a private channel beginning December 1.

According to Banglavision sources, the show will follow its familiar format but with some fresh twists. Each episode will focus on a specific theme, featuring segments such as excerpts from renowned films, behind-the-scenes stories, and insightful discussions with notable guests.

Tarek Akhand, the head of programming at Banglavision, emphasised the uniqueness of "Lal Golap", stating, "In an era where many channels are striving to present themselves differently, 'Lal Golap' stands out with its distinctive format. It's far from the typical talk shows viewers are accustomed to and instead provides a rich and varied experience. Shafik Rehman is one of the country's most respected journalists and media personalities, which further elevates the show."

Produced by Tahmina Mukta, "Lal Golap" will air every Sunday at 11:30pm. The show will continue its tradition of blending informative content with entertainment, covering contemporary national and international events. Additionally, each episode will feature reports on specific topics, along with clips from various films, making it both an enlightening and enjoyable experience for viewers.
