Shakib Khan starrer ‘Dorod’ falls prey to online piracy
Last Friday, the Pan-Indian film "Dorod", starring Shakib Khan and directed by Anonno Mamun, was released across the country alongside other international theatres. However, from the outset, the film has struggled to draw audiences. Many believe that its release outside Eid festivities has created this scarcity of audience.
Adding to its woes, the film has now fallen victim to piracy. Since yesterday (November 21), "Dorod" has been circulating through several YouTube channels. This development is expected to exacerbate the film's financial losses.
The version circulating on YouTube appears to have been recorded inside a cinema hall. However, no immediate comments have been made by director Anonno Mamun regarding the matter.
Shakib Khan is widely regarded as the most commercially successful actor in the industry, but this success largely hinges on Eid releases. During Eid, cinemas naturally attract large audiences, which filmmakers and producers leverage to their advantage.
Critics argue that this tactic has allowed Shakib to dominate the box office during Eid holidays in recent years. However, the question, "Just how strong is Shakib's market appeal outside Eid?" has been raised repeatedly — and "Dorod" has found itself facing that very test.
In "Dorod", Shakib Khan stars opposite Bollywood actress Sonal Chauhan. The film also features Bollywood's Rahul Dev, Tollywood's Payel Sarkar, Biswajit Chakraborty, Rajesh Sharma, and Alok Jain, among others.
