Shamol breaks his silence
Starting his career in the theatre, popular actor Shamol Mawla slowly made his way into the hearts of the audience with his versatility and dedication, over the years. Once called the 'Prince of OTT', Shamol brought another exciting thriller web-series, "The Silence"—which has recently been released on Binge.
In an exclusive interview with Star Showbiz, the actor shared his experience about working in the series and much more.
Your thriller web-series "The Silence" has been released on Binge recently. How was the response?
Since its release, I have been receiving great responses from the audience. Fans have been calling and messaging me to congratulate me about the series. The concept of "The Silence" is very different from what we watch in our country. Maybe, it's the first time any director has worked on this concept. As this is Vicky Zahed's production, people always expect a surprise from him. I think they were not disappointed.
What was the most challenging part of playing your character in the series?
Staying silent throughout most of the series was the challenging part for me. It might seem like it's an easy job and we just have to keep our mouths shut, but it was very tough to actually execute. To convey a message through just actions and expressions was difficult for me. Sometimes, I had to be silent in my own home, just to become familiar with my character.
What convinced you to sign on for "The Silence" and how was the experience of working with Vicky Zahed?
This is my first project with Vicky Zahed. When he told me the story, I was so amazed by the concept and my character, that I decided to do the project without any hesitation from that moment. I had a great time working with Vicky. His entire team was very energetic and fun, which meant I rarely felt bored. Everyone on the team was involved in the story.
When the OTT industry began flourishing in Bangladesh, you received critically acclaim for your performance in 'Money Honey'. However, afterwards you were absent from the scene. What caused this gap?
The time gap was intentional on my part. After Money Honey, I was being offered too many projects. I felt like I need a break because I was doing the same type of roles. The audience can get bored when they watch you in too many similar projects. So, I wanted to return to the OTT industry with a bang. I was waiting for a good script to come. Finally, it happened with "The Silence".
Who are your favourites in the showbiz industry?
I am a great fan of Ahmed Rubel, and I also like to watch Afran Nisho's works. Apart from this, Zakia Bari Mamo, Nazia Haque Orsha, and Moushumi Hamid are also whom I admire. Recently, I have worked with Mehazabien Chowdhury and I absolutely loved her acting.
In your opinion, what are your top three projects so far?
I would say, "Money Honey", "The Silence" and "Mohanagar".
