‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ will be an unforgettable experience for fans
At the turn of the 21st century, director Sam Raimi brought Spider-Man to the silver screen, starring Tobey Maguire as the titular character. It heralded one of the best comic book villains - Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin – and redefined the superhero genre into something exquisite. Without Raimi's films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as it is today, being the most successful media franchise of all time, wouldn't exist.
Spider-Man quickly became my favourite character in all of fiction after I was introduced to him through Raimi's films. He may be a superhero but at his core, he is an intriguingly flawed character with rustic passion. His sacrifices make us empathise with him and his resilience through it all is what makes him an inspiring superhero.
"Spider-Man: No Way Home" is one of the most hotly anticipated films coming to the MCU. The third instalment in Tom Holland's series of Spider-Man films teases a blending of worlds that has hardcore fans incredibly excited. It hints at a reunion of four of Spiderman's greatest rivals from alternate universes as they all come back from the dead. Electro from 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", the Green Goblin from the 2002 Spider-Man movie, Doctor Octopus from the latter's sequel, and lastly, Sandman from the last movie in Raimi's trilogy are all confirmed to make a comeback.
"Far From Home" ended with Mysterio posthumously disclosing Peter Parker's identity as Spiderman to the entire world.
In an attempt to undo this mishap, Peter asks for Doctor Strange's help, who is surprisingly willing to rewrite the past, despite an ominous warning from Wong not to cast a spell that would meddle with events in the space-time continuum — and so, the journey begins.
There is more to love than beloved characters making a return, and a multiverse fiasco. We truly get to see the reason why Peter has always been cognizant so as not to reveal his identity as Spiderman, both in the comics and in the movies. In "No Way Home", we see the ramifications that follow as the world learns who Spider-Man is, and how it puts his loved ones in danger.
It is now seemingly up to Tom Holland's Spider-Man to fight the four unscrupulous villains he has never encountered before. It has been heavily rumoured that other versions of MCU's resident wall-crawler portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield might also feature in "No Way Home". The arrival of their nemeses hints that Garfield and Maguire may make appearances, even if they are just cameos.
If there's anything more thrilling than the return of the villains we love to hate, it is the Iron Spider suit. This bullet-proof suit with four metal arms is the perfect fit for our hero as he fights against these villains.
It is also a mystery if other archenemies of Spiderman - Rhino from "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" or Michael Keaton's Vulture from the post-credits scene of "Spider-Man: Homecoming" will come back. Even Mysterio might return to finish what he started.
While the Vulture and Mysterio have their own appeal, the past villains are incomparably repugnant. It will be riveting to see their looks in this era, and how it affects their demeanours.
If they do return, we just might get our first look at the Sinister Six - a group of supervillains in the comics. As a longtime Spider-Man fan, I cannot wait to see that.
