Actress Sushama Sarker, a household name on stage, television, and film, has completed shooting for her latest project, "Solte". Following an extensive shoot in the scenic Bandarban, Sarkar is back in Dhaka, gearing up for the release of what promises to be one of the most impactful biopics of the year.

Directed by Zahir Raihan and supported by a government grant, "Solte" explores the inspiring life of Ekushey Padak-winning social worker Polan Sarkar — a man who dedicated his life to spreading knowledge by distributing books door-to-door, encouraging the love for reading. The man's quiet revolution in promoting literacy made Sarkar a revered figure, and the film intends to honour his legacy.

Speaking passionately about the project with The Daily Star, Sushama shared, "'Solte' delivers an incredible storyline. It captures the essence of Polan Sarkar's life—his unwavering commitment to delivering books and spreading knowledge. It is a tribute to his remarkable journey."

"Not everyone can illuminate the minds of others in the way Polan Sarkar did. He did it most extraordinarily," she added.

Sushama plays a pivotal role in the film, an experience she described as both challenging and rewarding. "At one point in the story, Polan Sarkar comes to the city and stays at the home of my character. He forms a deep bond with the character's child, but this character does not appreciate it at first. Polan Sarkar then gets asked to leave.  It is only later that my character realises how special he is, a man dedicated to spreading knowledge."

The film's shooting locations included Bandarban and Kakonhat in Rajshahi, adding authenticity to the narrative of Polan Sarkar's journey through rural Bangladesh.

Sushama's packed schedule doesn't stop with "Solte". She has also wrapped up filming another government-funded film, "Nodai" and recently completed a Valentine's Day special titled "How Sweet". Her television series "Dena Pawna" continues to draw high viewership, further cementing her presence across the existing mediums.

Beyond her work in film and television, Sushama is active in theatre, regularly performing in the one-woman show "Paro", which has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. "The stage is my first love, and 'Paro' has been an incredible experience for me. The play's feedback has been overwhelming," she concluded.
