Tanzika Amin ties the knot in her mother’s wedding saree
Tanzika Amin has tied the knot wearing the same saree that her mother, Ismat Ara Mina, donned at her wedding four decades ago. The saree had been carefully preserved by her mother for 40 years. On Friday afternoon, the wedding ceremony was held at Tanzika's home in Bailey Road, Dhaka, attended by close family members from both sides.
Speaking to Prothom Alo about her wedding, the actress shared the significance of wearing her mother's saree. "A few years ago, I wanted to make a dupatta out of my mother's wedding saree, to wear at my wedding. However, the designer who worked on my bridal outfit said, 'Apu, Auntie's saree is so beautiful! Why cut it to make a dupatta when you can wear it entirely?' That made me think—why not? From there, they designed a matching dupatta, blouse, and the rest of the ensemble."
She further revealed, "The jewellery I wore was also based on designs from 50 years ago. It all felt so meaningful and connected."
Reflecting on her journey to this moment, Tanzika said, "I never thought I would remain single. I always felt it wasn't the right time for marriage. But this time, it felt like the right moment and the right person had come into my life, so I couldn't say no to the decision."
Although the couple formalised their marriage in a simple Akhd ceremony, Tanzika shared plans for additional post-wedding celebrations later this month. Her husband, Saif Basunia, is an Australian resident who has lived in Sydney for over 25 years. Tanzika and Saif first met in 2018, which led to a friendship that later blossomed into a deeper connection.
When asked whether she would continue living in Bangladesh or move to Australia, Tazjika said, "Acting is my passion, and Dhaka is my beloved city. However, due to certain circumstances, I will have to divide my time between the two countries."
On how their relationship evolved into marriage, the actress said, "It was about two months ago when I started seriously considering him as a life partner. Our families were very involved in the process. My mother admired Saif a lot and knew him well from before. There was family pressure on me to consider marriage, and eventually, I came to agree. At the same time, I realised I liked him too. He's a wonderful human being—kind and empathetic. I knew he was the right person to be my life partner."
When asked when she realised he was "the one," she said, "It became clear when I started thinking about him as a life partner. Even as a friend, I noticed how kind and understanding he was, which is essential in any relationship."
