The battle of Byomkesh: Dev and Anirban Bhattacharya in fierce face-off

The anticipation among Bengali audiences for Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's celebrated novel "Durgo Rahasya" continues to grow as two directors, Birsa Dasgupta and Srijit Mukherji, have recently wrapped up filming a movie and a web series based on the iconic detective character, Byomkesh Bakshi.

Dev and Anirban Bhattacharya have been cast in the lead roles for both adaptations, generating excitement among fans.

Yesterday, Birsa, along with Dev and their team, released a captivating pre-teaser for their film, "Byomkesh O Durgo Rahasya," while Srijit unveiled a poster for his web series on the same day, "Durgo Rawhoshya," accompanied by his signature hashtag, '#OnMyOwnTerms.'

In response to Srijit's hashtag, Dev playfully remarked, "We don't have any terms and conditions." He also expressed a single wish, urging viewers to appreciate their efforts by liking the video and sharing it with friends.

The question on everyone's mind is whether Dev's teaser or Srijit's series poster will capture the audience's attention. Anirban Bhattacharya, known for his remarkable portrayal of Byomkesh, has already amassed a massive following.

However, Dev's fanbase is equally formidable. Consequently, social media platforms have become a battleground for fans, sharply divided into two groups, passionately defending their respective favourites.

Dev faced initial ridicule when news broke of his casting as Byomkesh. Abir Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, and Anirban Bhattacharya have all previously donned the detective's glasses, leading some viewers to question Dev's suitability for the role. However, the tide turned once Dev's look as Byomkesh was unveiled, earning him praise from many skeptics.

Despite Birsa's denial of any competition with Srijit over Byomkesh, a sense of rivalry has persisted from the beginning. Both projects were filmed in Madhya Pradesh and coincidentally released their teasers and posters on the same day.

Both of the Byomkesh adventures are slated to hit the screens simultaneously in August 2023, promising an exhilarating clash that will keep fans on the edge of their seats.
