Three directors to helm Lego's new live-action series with Universal

The Lego Group has brought on board directors Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Cornish to direct a trio of live-action films under Universal Pictures, as reported by Deadline.

Jake Kasdan (known for the "Jumanji" series and "Bad Teacher"), Patty Jenkins (famed for "Wonder Woman" and its sequel "Wonder Woman 1984"), and Joe Cornish (behind "Attack the Block" and "The Kid Who Would Be King") are expected to bring their unique styles to each project.

While plot details for these three projects remain under wraps, the filmmakers leading each film have been officially announced. The movies will be produced by Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians from the Lego Group.

Kasdan will helm the film from a screenplay crafted by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul (known for "The D Train" and "The Grinder"), drawing on an original concept and an earlier draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows (creators of "The Pickup" and "Animal Friends"). Kasdan, alongside Melvin Mar, will produce the film under their Detective Agency banner.

Jenkins, meanwhile, will direct from a script she co-wrote with Geoff Johns, marking another collaboration after their work on "Wonder Woman 1984" (co-written with Dave Callaham). She will produce this film through her production company, Wicious Pictures.

Cornish is set to rewrite and direct the third film, building on a previous draft penned by Heather Anne Campbell (known for "Rick & Morty" and "One Punch Man") and based on an initial treatment by Simon Rich (creator of "Man Seeking Woman" and "Miracle Workers").

Overseeing these projects for Universal will be Matt Reilly, executive vice president of production development, and Jacqueline Garell, director of production development.

The three yet-to-be-titled films are part of Universal and The Lego Group's long-standing partnership, which dates back over a decade, initially sparked by the Lego Jurassic World product line and accompanying video games that led to several television adaptations. 

Lego's venture into the world of feature films began in 2014 at Warner Bros with "The Lego Movie," a blockbuster that launched a billion-dollar franchise, followed by popular titles like "The Lego Batman Movie," "The Lego Ninjago Movie," and "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part."
