Two-time National Award-winning makeup artiste Abdur Rahman no more

Abdur Rahman, the two-time National Film Award-winning makeup artiste, passed away earlier today at 5:20 am. He was 76. The artiste was under treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On Monday, after his health began to deteriorate, his nephew Mohammad Halim took him to the hospital's emergency room, where the doctors recommended that he be admitted to the hospital.

Apart from being a diabetic patient for many years, Abdur Rahman was having breathing complications. According to his nephew, for the past few days, the artiste was not able to eat anything—leading to him becoming physically weak. Due to his old age, he also struggled to even recognise anyone.

Abdur Rahman remained unmarried, living alone in a rented apartment or sometimes with his sister. He also stayed in an old age home in Savar, a few years back. For the last two years, he was staying with his nephew in Kamrangirchar.

The artiste will be laid to the rest at Azimpur graveyard. His Namaz-e-Janazah took place at Baitul Monowar Mashjid (ward 55, Kamrangirchar) after the Zuhr prayers.

93-year-old Masud Ali Khan has no regrets

Over the course of his six-decade-long career, he worked in iconic Bangladeshi films such as "Ghuddi", "Matir Moyna", "Meghla Akash", and "Nagbou". He had done the makeup for characters in over 200 films.

He was honoured with the National Film Award twice, for his contribution in the films "Moner Manush" (2010), and "Nekabborer Mohaproyan" (2016). Apart from this, he also received several awards from many associations including the producer's association.

In 1962, at the age of 16, he began his career doing makeup for the theatre. Then, he would work on television projects contractually. After the Liberation War, he began working in films.

Born in July 22, 1946, the renowned makeup artiste has put his magical make-up skills to use on artistes like Nayak Raj Razzak, Kabori, Shabana, etc. He also did make-up for Indian artistes like Shabana Azmi, Sabitri Chatterjee, Laboni Sarkar, and Prosenjit Chatterjee, among many others.

In his illustrious career, Abdur Rahman worked with eminent filmmakers including the likes of Narayan Ghosh Mita, Syed Salahuddin Zaki, Kazi Zahir, Humayun Ahmed, Goutam Ghose, and Basu Chatterjee, among others.
