Popular Dhallywood actors Ferdous and Purnima are in Kolkata today to attend the much-anticipated 5th Bangladesh Film Festival Kolkata. 

The festival's grand opening will be held at Nandan (Nandan-1) in Kolkata at 5 pm today, and film screenings are scheduled to commence from July 29, running until July 31.

Organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, the film festival aims to promote and showcase the best of Bangladeshi Bengali cinema.

Ferdous, sharing his excitement before leaving for Kolkata, expressed, "This is my third time attending the Bangladesh Film Festival in Kolkata. I want to promote Bengali cinema through such a significant event." 

He further revealed that several films, including one featuring himself, will be screened during the festival, offering the audience in Bengal the opportunity to appreciate and discuss the various aspects of Bangladeshi films.

Highlighting the cultural connection between the two Bengals, Ferdous stated, "Films have the power to connect hearts and minds. It is truly delightful that our country's movies will be celebrated on the other side of Bengal. I wish this event a great success."

Actress Purnima also shared her optimism about the festival, expressing hopes for its success and appreciation of the movies. 

"The 5th Bangladesh Film Festival promises to be an extraordinary and beautiful event, offering a platform for various films, including one in which I am a part. This is indeed fantastic news," she said.

The opening ceremony will have the distinguished presence of Information and Broadcasting Minister, Dr Hasan Mahmud, as the chief guest, and West Bengal Education Minister, Bratya Basu, as the guest of honour. The festival will also welcome renowned film director Gautam Ghosh as a special guest.
