‘Wicked: For Good’ first look teases a rift somewhere over the rainbow

"Wicked: For Good", the second part of the blockbuster musical adaptation "Wicked", gave audiences a first glimpse at its darker and more emotionally charged story during Universal's presentation at CinemaCon.
Slated for a November 21, 2025 release, the footage teases rising tensions in Oz as Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) is vilified and Glinda (Ariana Grande) is drawn into the political machinery of Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) and the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum).
Scenes include Elphaba skywriting "The Wizard Lies," Glinda in her signature pink, Fiyero leading troops, and classic Wizard of Oz characters preparing to hunt the Wicked Witch.
Backed by a 43-piece orchestra performance of "Wicked's" iconic songs, Erivo and Grande took the stage alongside director Jon M Chu and producer Marc Platt. Chu noted the challenge of splitting the beloved musical into two films, a decision made to preserve the heart of the source material. Platt acknowledged the risk—but noted the success, with the first film earning nearly $750 million globally and 10 Oscar nominations.
The sequel digs deeper into the origin stories behind "The Wizard of Oz", including the "Tin Man", "Scarecrow", and "Dorothy"—whose roles will be expanded in the film. Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero) confirmed fans can expect a more serious tone, with heightened emotional depth and stakes.
"Wicked: For Good" continues the journey of Elphaba and Glinda's complicated friendship, set against a backdrop of betrayal, magic, and political manipulation—ushering audiences toward the familiar tale from an entirely new angle.
