Flash floods hit 4 low-lying areas, hundreds marooned in Mymensingh
Around 500 families were marooned after four low-lying areas in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh were inundated today following flash floods due to upstream water from across the border.
Four unions – Gamaritola, Ghoshgoan, Bohorbhita, and Purakandulia – were submerged as an embankment in the Nitai river collapsed following heavy rainfall in the last two days, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting locals.
Anwar Hossain Khan, chairman of Gamaritola union, said he visited the affected areas and informed local administration about the sufferings of the flood affected people.
Dhobaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rafiquzzaman said they are making a list of the flood-affected people in the four areas.
Primary assessment found houses of around 500 families in the areas have been marooned. The upazila administration has also distributed dry food among the victims this afternoon, said the UNO.
