The water level started rising from 5:00pm this afternoon and has been flowing above 20cm of the danger level (danger level 52-metre 60cm), causing a heavy onrush of water from upstream India, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports quoting Rabiul Islam, executive engineer of Water Development Board in Dalia.
He said all the 44 gates of Teesta Barrage were kept open due to the onrush water pressure from upstream.
The WDB engineer said people on the riverside areas were being instructed through loud speakers to go to a safe place.
