Ban on hilsa fishing: 4 fishermen sentenced to a month in jail in Barishal
A mobile court in Barishal today sentenced four fishermen, each to one month in prison, for fishing hilsa violating a ban that was imposed from today.
Executive Magistrate Ataur Rahman sentenced Md Khalilur Hawladar, Sujan, Farooq Chowkidar and Abdul Jalil.
The mobile court conducted its drive at 9:00am today and seized nearly 15,000 meters of fishing net from them, said Fisheries Officer Bimal Chandra Das.
The ban on hilsa fishing is being enforced on 432km stretch of six districts including three in Barishal division, Fisheries Officer Masud Ara Momi told The Daily Star, earlier.
Mobile courts will continue drives against hilsa fishing during the ban, reports our Barishal correspondent.
