Cyclone Mocha: Khulna prepares 409 shelters
Khulna administration has kept 409 cyclone centres ready to protect people from the wrath of Mocha, which is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclone by tomorrow.
"A total of 409 cyclone shelters, including 385 schools-cum cyclone centres and 24 multipurpose cyclone centres, have been prepared to deal with the cyclone," said Abdul Karim, district relief and rehabilitation officer.
A total of 2,73,850 people can take shelter in these cyclone centres," he told our Khulna correspondent.
He said the upazila level officials were asked to remain in their respective workplaces.
They were also asked to educate people on the dangers the cyclone may bring with it and take precautionary measures.
A meeting of the disaster management committee was scheduled this afternoon.
Talking to the correspondent, Amirul Azad, in-charge of Khulna Weather Observatory Centre, said the cyclone is unlikely to hit Khulna coasts, unless it changes direction.
Heavy rains accompanied by gusty wind may lash the district on Saturday due to the impact of the cyclone, he added.
