Inland water vessel services suspended
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended operations of all types of water vessels across the country as cyclone Mocha intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm over east central Bay of Bengal.
BIWTA suspended the movement of water vessels on the inland waterways from 10:30pm yesterday.
The suspension will remain in force until further notice, Mobarak Hossain Majumder, public relations officer of BIWTA, told The Daily Star today.
BIWTA also suspended leave of its all employees until further notice and asked to keep ready all salvaging boats, he said
Following the order, no launch left Dhaka today, said Alamgir Kabir, joint director of BIWTA.
