Japan gives $500,000 to IOM for Cyclone Mocha-affected Rohingyas
Japan has decided to provide the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) with $500,000 for supporting the Rohingyas and the host community affected by Cyclone Mocha.
The emergency grant will support water, sanitation and health services to the Rohingya and host communities, said the Japanese Embassy in a statement today.
"I feel empathy for those who suffer from disasters such as cyclones. Japan is also prone to natural disasters and is committed to supporting the response and the Build Back Better after Cyclone Mocha for both Rohingya and host communities," said Japanese Ambassador Iwama Kiminori.
He hoped that the services will contribute to maintaining a hygienic environment and will prevent water-borne diseases which might outbreak after cyclones.
IOM Bangladesh Chief of Mission Abdusattor Esoev expressed gratitude and said, "Together with our partners, we will continue our efforts to provide essential assistance and support the recovery of the affected communities."
Since the beginning of the emergency in August 2017, Japan has contributed over $200 million to aid agencies.
