Load-shedding returns to Sylhet after election
The "election electricity," a term that dwellers of Sylhet city coined to describe the continuous supply of power ahead of the Sylhet city polls, went away this morning, a day after the election.
According to the city residents, they had been enjoying days without load shedding since June 5 till the day of Sylhet City Corporation election. However, as soon as the polls ended, load-shedding returned, they added.
A Bangladesh Power Development Board official, seeking anonymity, said it was ordered to keep the city areas free from load shedding during the campaign days.
As the that election is over, the power cuts have returned as it is necessary due to shortage of supply, he added.
According to the BPDB in Sylhet, the Power Grid Company Bangladesh dispatched 113.5 MW against the load demand of 171.5 MW.
Given the situation, the BPDB in Sylhet is enforcing a 58MW load shedding which is 33.82 percent of the demand, said Md Abdul Kadir, chief engineer of BPDB in Sylhet.
