A group of environmentalists continued their sit-in protest at the Panthakunja Park against the construction of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, despite efforts by three advisers to negotiate a resolution.

The demonstration, now in its eleventh day, took a dramatic turn as protesters blocked Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan's car for nearly ten minutes after heated discussions failed to meet their demands."We will not end our protest until our demands are fulfilled,"Amirul Rajiv, convener of the Bangladesh Tree Protection Movement, told reporters today.

Protesters have called for an immediate halt to the destruction of the park and the cutting of trees. They are also demanding steps to restore the park's environment and biodiversity.

During discussions earlier in the day, tensions rose when Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan appeared angry and left the conversation. Protesters, led by Rajiv, stood in front of his car to prevent him from leaving.

The situation was calmed down later by Environment, Forests and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, who asked the protesters to stay calm.

Rizwana Hasan assured protesters of further dialogue, saying, "We will discuss how to increase the greenery in this park and hold another meeting on Thursday to find a resolution."

Speaking to The Daily Star, Rajiv expressed disappointment over the lack of progress.

"Despite eleven days of continuous protest, no solution has been proposed. Even when the advisers arrived, they failed to provide answers about alternative green spaces nearby," he said.

According to the protestors, they have outlined three main demands.

They demand a halt to the filling of Hatirjheel for the Elevated Expressway project and removal of the installed pillars to restore the environment and biodiversity of the reservoir. They also called for a stop to the destruction and tree cutting in the Panthakunja Park and taking immediate steps to restore its environment and biodiversity.

They also want the cancellation of the expressway project from Karwan Bazar to Palashi and demand holding accountable the professionals and officials involved in this part of the project.
