Lowest temperature this year reported 6.9 degrees Celsius at Tetulia

The lowest temperature this year has been recorded today at 6.9 degrees Celsius at Tetulia in Panchagarh.

Md Rasel Shah, an official at Tetulia Weather Observation Centre of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, confirmed it to The Daily Star this morning.

The temperature was 7 degrees Celsius at Tetulia at 9:00am on Monday. The highest temperature of the day was recorded at 24.7 degrees Celsius the same day.

BMD's Meteorologist Abdul Hamid also confirmed this to this newspaper.

Sirajul Islam at Salbahan village, a worker who lifts stones from the river, said, "We cannot stay in the river area due the cold wind blowing through the place continuously."

On January 8, 2018, the mercury plummeted to 2.6 degrees Celsius in Tetulia, the lowest-ever recorded temperature in Bangladesh's history.

According to the Met office, if the temperature is 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, it is considered an additional extreme cold wave. Also, it is considered a severe cold wave if the temperature is between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius.

Temperature from 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is considered a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius a moderate cold wave and less than 6 degrees Celsius a severe cold wave.
