Mild to moderate heat wave sweeps over 14 districts including Dhaka

A mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over 14 districts including Dhaka and it may continue, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said today.
The other districts witnessing the heat wave are Sirajganj, Tangail, Faridpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Rangamati, Feni, Lakshmipur, Jashore, Chuadanga and Manikganj
According to BMD's regular weather bulletin this morning, maximum temperature reached 36.6 degrees Celsius or to the level of a mild heat wave in Dhaka yesterday.
The met office also said that the country's highest maximum temperature was recorded at 38.2 degrees Celsius or to the level of a moderate heat wave in Sirajganj's Baghabari yesterday.
According to the forecast, weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country in 24 hours commencing 9:00am today.
Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country during the period.
Meanwhile, BMD forecast rainfall in parts of the country over a 48-hour period from tomorrow morning.
Rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions in 24 hours from 9:00am tomorrow.
On the other hand, during 24 hours from 9:00am Sunday (April 6) rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
According to the BMD, a mild heat wave is considered when maximum temperature stays between 36 and 37.9 degrees Celsius while moderate heat wave has the mercury between 38 and 39.9 degrees Celsius, and severe heat wave between 40 and 41.9 degrees Celsius. Above 42 degrees Celsius is considered very severe heat wave.
