Rain, thunderstorms likely in Dhaka, other districts today, tomorrow

Rain and thunderstorms are likely in different districts, including the capital Dhaka, today and tomorrow.

Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid of Bangladesh Meteorological Department told this to The Daily Star this morning.

"Rain occurred in several places over the last 24 hours, with the highest recorded rainfall of 10mm in Bogura. Besides, Rajshahi received 7mm, Chuadanga and Tarash (Sirajganj) 4mm each, Ishwardi (Pabna) and Bogura 2mm each, and Tangail 1mm," he said.

"Tomorrow is expected to be similar, after which rainfall activity may decrease," the meteorologist said.

According to a Met office bulletin, "Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, and Sylhet divisions, with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at some places across the country."

Scattered hailstorms may also occur in some areas. The sky may remain cloudy in other parts of the country.

According to BMD, in the next 24 hours starting from 9:00am day temperature may remain nearly unchanged and night temperature may fall slightly over the country.

After dropping tendency today and tomorrow, the country's temperature may start to rise from Monday, BMD Assistant Meteorologist Afruza Sultana told this newspaper over the phone.

According to the BMD bulletin, yesterday the country's highest maximum temperature was recorded at 34.2 degrees Celsius in Chattogram's Sitakunda.

Dhaka's maximum temperature was 29.4 degrees Celsius yesterday.
