A mild cold wave is sweeping over northern Bangladesh for the third consecutive day; with the lowest temperature recorded today at 9.3 degrees Celsius in Panchagarh's Tetulia at 9:00am.

The temperature in Tetulia was recorded 9.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 8.4 degrees Celsius on Friday, said Jitendra Nath, assistant officer at the Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) recorded the same temperature at Chuadanga in the morning today. 

Though clear skies allowed for sunshine in the morning, it is tough to stay outside due to the persistence of biting winds from north.

The weather is expected to remain similar for the next few days, according to the Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre.

The cold has taken a toll on the low-income population, significantly affecting their livelihoods and daily routines.

Day labourers, rickshaw-pullers, and other daily earners said that during this cold wave, they can somehow continue working during the day-time as the sun is out. But it is tough to continue work in the morning and evening.

Besides, people with limited means are suffering from a dearth of warm clothes to overcome the adverse weather.The district administrations of Thakurgaon and Panchagarh are distributing warm clothes among those in need from various government and non-government sources, according to the deputy commissioners (DCs) of both districts.

Despite the cold, the region saw a high of 26.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday while temperatures reached 26.1 degrees Celsius on Friday.

Meanwhile, Dhaka's minimum temperature this morning was 15.8 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature may fall slightly, and day temperature may rise slightly over the country, the met office in its latest weather bulletin said.

During the period, light to moderate fog may occur at different areas over the country during midnight till morning.

Besides, weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.

The wind direction and speed at Dhaka will be north-northwesterly at six to 12 kilometres per hour.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours, the met office said.
