5 Himalayan vultures rescued in Gaibandha
Five Himalayan Vultures were rescued at a village in Sadar upazila of Gaibandha today.
Gaibandha forest officials, fire fighters and members of environment-based organisation Team for Energy and Environmental Research (TEER) jointly rescued the birds, reports our Bogura correspondent.
The vultures were given treatment and kept at the office of Gaibandha Forest Department, said Md Abdus Sobur, an official of Gaibandha Forest Department.
One vulture died later, he added.
Md Motlebur Rahman, divisional forest officer in Rangpur Division, said they will send the vultures to Vulture Rescue Centre at Singra National Park in Dinajpur and the vultures will be released in the forest after treatment.
Sarowar Alam Dipu, a senior programme officer of the IUCN, Bangladesh said every year around 100 Griffons come to Bangladesh from Himalaya during the winter season and those are spotted in the northern districts.
