Elephant herd of 3 stuck in Ctg's KEPZ gets new member
A calf was born to a small elephant herd that had been stuck in a small area inside the Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) in Chattogram's Anwara upazila on Monday.
Molla Rezaul Karim, conservator of forest (wildlife and nature conservation), told The Daily Star that the herd consisting of three elephants got a new family member.
Terming it good news, he said the herd got confined after a corridor linking Chunati and Baskhali upazila got snapped due to human settlements and structures.
"We must ensure human-elephant coexistence," he emphasised.
Last year, the KEPZ authority wrote to the PMO (Prime Minister Office) to relocate the herd -- citing attacks of the giant animals.
KEPZ was established on 2,492 acres of land which was home to wildlife including elephants.
