Fire guts 600 mounds of jute in Kurigram
Around 600 mounds of jute were gutted in a fire that broke out at a go-down in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram early today.
Nageshwari Fire Service and Civil Defence Team leader Imon Mia said a unit of the fire fighters managed to douse the blaze four hours into their hectic efforts.
Out of the 1,400 mounds of jute stored there, 800 mounds were recovered, he said.
The estimated price of the damaged jute was around Tk 15 lakh, he added.
The fire may have originated from an electric short circuit, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports, quoting the fire service official.
Moslem Uddin, son of go-down owner Abdul Wahab, said the fire also damaged the roof and walls of the store.
