30 Rohingyas rescued from 'traffickers'
Border Guard Bangladesh yesterday rescued 30 Rohingyas, including women and children, from Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar while they were being trafficked to Malaysia.
BGB also detained two alleged human traffickers -- Mohib Ullah, 20, and Humayun, 18, of Teknaf -- in this connection.
Lt Col Md Asadud Zaman Chowdhury, captain of BGB-2, said the two human traffickers were illegally sending the Rohingyas to Malaysia by boat in exchange of a big amount of money.
A BGB team, led by Nayek Salah Uddin, held Mohib and rescued three Rohingya men, 11 women and four children in Noakhali Para area near Shah Porir Dwip around 9:00am, he added.
Another BGB team, led by Nayek Sikdar Shariful Islam, detained Humayun and rescued three Rohingya men, six women and three children in Goalchar area of the upazila around 4:00am, he said.
The BGB captain further said the Rohingyas were sent back to their camps.
Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said a case was lodged against the two alleged human traffickers with the police station.
