An alleged outlaw was killed in a "gunfight" with police in the district's Tala upazila early yesterday.

The dead Mozaffar Sana, 40, of Dohar village in the upazila, was a regional commander of banned Purba Banglar Communist Party, said police.

According to the law enforcers, Mozaffar stood accused in 18 cases, including murder and robbery, with different police stations of Satkhira and Naogaon.

With this, 10 people were killed in the incidents of “shootout” or “gunfight” after the killing of the wife of superintendent of police on Sunday.

According to a press release of Satkhira police, a team of law enforcers, led by Officer-in-Charge of Tala Police Station Sagir Mia, was conducting a special drive. Around 2:30am, police saw that a motorcycle was coming and signalled it to stop at Chara Bat Tola.

Sensing the presence of police, the criminals exploded two bombs and opened fire on them. The law enforcers then returned fire, triggering the "gunfight".

Mozaffar suffered bullet injuries, while two other motorcyclists managed to flee, leaving the vehicle on the spot.

Mozaffar was taken to Tala Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Police also claimed to have recovered the motorcycle, a firearm and three bullets from the spot.
