Gonoshasthaya gets permission to have its Covid-19 detection kits tested
Gonoshasthaya Kendra has received permission from the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) to have the locally manufactured kits for Covid-19 detection tested.
The DGDA has confirmed it issuing a letter to Gonoshasthaya Kendra today.
Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, founder and trustee of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, told The Daily Star, "DGDA has asked to test it at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) or IEDCR."
The BSMMU vice chancellor was also informed about the matter, said Dr Zafrullah.
The development came following some comments over the locally manufactured Covid-19 testing kits of the Gonoshasthaya Kendra, he added.
BSMMU Vice Chancellor Kanak Kanti Barua told The Daily Star that they have received letter from the DGDA requesting for validation of the test kit manufactured by Gonoshasthaya Kendra.
He said they also have received a letter from Gonoshasthaya Kendra.
"We will contact Gonoshasthaya Kendra next Saturday. We will need to exchange scientific documents before we go for validation," Kanak Kanti Barua said.
On April 25, Gonoshasthaya Kendra handed over the testing kits to BSMMU and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for final approval from the government.
