Govt official detained with bribe money
A government official has been arrested in Brahmanbaria while taking bribe. Md Qutub Uddin, auditor of Brahmanbaria district accounts office, was detained with the bribe money on Thursday, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
Confirming the arrest, Sohag Rana, in-charge of No. 2 police outpost in Brahmanbaria town, said, "A member of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) has handed over the government official with the bribe money."
Inspector Sohag Rana said that as the service of 63 master roll employees of Roads and Highways Department in Brahmanbaria has become permanent, Tk one crore and seven lakh was sanctioned in their names as arrear.
To get the money, the employees made a deal with the arrested auditor in exchange of Tk 5 lakh as bribe, the police officer said, adding that as per the agreement, they withdrew Tk 64 lakh in first phase.
"Today (Thursday) a bill of the remaining Tk 43 lakh was prepared. When three employees were giving auditor Qutub Uddin Tk 5 lakh as bribe according to the deal, the NSI personnel detained him red-handed," he said.
Later, the arrestee was handed over to police. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will investigate into the matter, Inspector Sohag Rana further said.
When contacted, Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station officer-in-charge Md Selim Uddin said that the ACC will take legal action against the government official. Preparations are underway to send him to court today.
