Country sees first Covid deaths in 2 months

Amid rising Covid-19 cases, the country today reported its first deaths from the disease in more than two months today.

Two Covid-19 patients died in the past 24 hours till 8:00am today, said a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The last death from Covid-19 was reported on March 28.

Of the deceased, one was male and one female. Both of them were aged between 61 and 70, and were from the Dhaka division, according to the press release.

With the latest count, the total number of casualties in the country due to Covid-19 increased to 29,448.

The DGHS, meanwhile, has reported 89 Covid-19 cases after testing 1509 samples in the same 24 hours.

The positivity rate was 5.87 percent.

During the past few days, case positivity rate started rising and hovered around 6 percent.
