Grade 3 classes of a school in Gopalganj's Kotalipara upazila have been suspended after a student tested positive for Covid-19.

The 8-year-old class three student of Ferdhora Government Primary School and her mother tested positive for Covid-19 on September 17, reports our Faridpur correspondent quoting Soheli Pavin Panna, the headmistress of the school.

The student in question attended classes as school reopened after 17 months following government order, said the headmistress.

"We check temperature of all students before letting them into classrooms," Soheli said, adding that the student did not show any symptoms while attending classes.

"We came to know about her infection on September 19 and suspended classes of third grade from the next day," she said.

The child's mother said that her daughter last went to school on September 12 and she developed fever the next day.

"I took her to a local doctor. Later, as symptoms were more intense, both of us gave samples at the upazila health complex on September 16 for Covid-19 testing and got the result the next day. Since then we are staying at home," the mother said.

"School teachers, upazila nirbahi officer and upazila health and family planning officer have contacted us and offered their support," she added.

Arpita Mandal, an assistant teacher of the school, said, "We maintain all hygiene rules every day at school. There is no panic among students of other classes and their parents about Covid-19. Student attendance rate is satisfactory."

Sushanta Vaidya, Kotalipara upazila health and family planning officer, said that the student is now in good health. "She is isolating at home and we have been monitoring her condition."

Ananda Kishor Saha, Gopalganj district primary education officer, said,

"After coming to know that a student of the school tested positive for Covid-19, we asked the school authorities to take all necessary steps to help the students. We also told all the schools teachers in the district to be more serious about keeping students safe."
