Delta variant dominant in recent Covid-19 cases: IEDCR
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) said they have found dominance of Delta variant among recent cases of Covid-19.
"Since the first detection of the Delta variant in April this year, the rate of infection by this variant started rising. Delta variant is found in 45 percent of the total samples [on which genome sequencing was done] in May and 78 percent in June," reads the COVID-19 situation report of IEDCR.
IEDCR said they have so far completed genome sequencing of 646 Covid-19 variants between December 2020 and June 2021 and found presence of Alpha variant, Beta variant, Delta variant, ETA variant and an unidentified variant.
According to the IEDCR, the Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta variants are considered variants of concern.
