Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today fined four state-owned establishments in the capital's Karwan Bazar after finding mosquito larvae in the buildings.

The four buildings are Petrobangla, Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, and an under-construction building of Jamuna Oil.

DNCC took the action on the third day of the special month-long drive to curb the spread of dengue fever and other mosquito-borne diseases in the city.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam led the operation.

He expressed his concern following the dengue drive, saying, "The finding of mosquito larvae in government institutions, specifically in Petrobangla, is truly frustrating and distressing.

"It was clearly stated during the ministry meeting that all government institutions would assume responsibility for addressing this issue. Unfortunately, the reality is that no one is living up to their obligations," he told reporters.

During the drive, DNCC collected Tk 20 lakh in fines from owners of the buildings, said DNCC spokesperson Mokbul Hossain. The DNCC also announced that officials and executive magistrates were conducting operations in 10 different areas.
