Dhaka North City Corporation has extended its month-long anti-mosquito drive for another month till August 31 to curb the spread of mosquito-borne diseases including dengue.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam came up with the announcement while talking to reporters after distributing books among the students of Mollartek Udyan Government Primary School in the capital's Dakshinkhan today.

The corporation has launched a three-tier programme to control dengue and it has also asked the officials concerned to hold dengue awareness meetings with the participation of councillors, imams of mosques, schoolteachers and renowned personalities of the wards concerned each week, said the mayor.

Besides, 10 magistrates have been appointed in as many regions to strengthen the anti-mosquito drive, Atiqul said.

Replying to a question, the mayor said, "We will use biological pesticides to destroy the Aedes larvae soon. It can be possible to control dengue if we can start a social movement with the involvement of all."
