Nationwide drives against adulterated food underway: Rab
Two days after the countrywide drives against brokers at government hospitals and other establishments, mobile courts assisted by Rab are conducting operations today against unscrupulous traders producing and storing adulterated or substandard foods in unhygienic environment.
Fifteen battalions of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) led by executive magistrates started the drives across the country in the morning, which will continue till late afternoon, ANM Imran Khan, assistant director of Rab's Legal and Media wing, told The Daily Star.
The offenders have been jailed or fined, Rab members said, adding that the substandard and adulterated foods seized during the drives are being destroyed.
On Sunday, Rab-assisted mobile courts sentenced 249 brokers at government hospitals, passport offices and BRTA offices to varying jail terms.
Besides, 248 others were fiend Tk 9 lakh for harassing and deceiving service seekers.
