Himu was killed for anti-drug campaigning
Himu was murdered for his role in an anti-drug campaign in Panchlaish area, Jawed Ali Chowdhury, the sixth prosecution witness in the Himu murder case, told a Chittagong court during cross-examination yesterday.
Chittagong Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Reza Tareque Ahmed fixed September 1 for continuing the cross-examination of Jawed, general secretary of Shikor, an anti-drug organisation which Himu was a member.
Jawed told the court that he was present when Himu described the brutal incident lying in his bed in Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said court sources.
Advocate Jewel Das, lawyer of accused Shahadat Hossain Saju, is cross-examining Jawed now. Jawed was already cross-examined by Md Kafiluddin, lawyer of accused Shah Selim Tipu.
Himadri Majumder Himu, an A-level student of Summerfield School and College, was brutally assaulted, dogs were unleashed upon him, and then he was allegedly pushed off a four-storey building in the port city's Panchlaish area on April 27, 2012. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in the capital on May 23.
On May 24, 2012, the murder case was filed accusing five persons in this regard. Other accused are Jahedul Islam Shawon, Mahboob Ali Khan Danny and Tipu's son Junaid Ahmed Riad.
